Joe Kryska and Ed Whalen Arenas are fully serviced, located in southwest Calgary within the Southland Leisure Centre. These arenas are operated by The City of Calgary and are located in the community of Palliser. From October through March, the ice surface is available for bookings between 6 a.m. and midnight, 7 days a week. The arenas feature:

  • Two 185' x 85' artificial ice surface (Joe Kryczka/Ed Whalen arenas)
  • 388/65 person spectator seating capacity
  • Proshop (offers skate sharpening)
  • Concession
  • Automated skate sharpening machine
  • Hot and cold vending machines
  • dry pad available for bookings during the summer months to accommodate lacrosse or ball hockey.

Southland Leisure Centre is one of the City of Calgary's world-class, award winning, 227,000 square foot multi-purpose recreation facilities. Since 1983 Southland has proudly served the citizens of Southwest Calgary, positioning itself as a Family Active Living Centre and serving as a community hub for all ages. Southland has a spectacular waterpark including a wave pool, dive tank, three exciting water slides, kiddies pool, hot tub, steam room and a fabulous Aqua Play structure including water guns, slides, and dump buckets. The pool also offers swim lessons and aqua fitness programs. Other key components are twin arenas which offer public skating and shinny hockey; dry sports areas which includes a 7,000 square foot weight room, a 4,300 square foot fitness studio, multi-use rooms, gymnasium, rock climbing, gymnastics gym, racquetball and squash courts, Playhouse classrooms and a kinder room for preschoolers. Tom Brook Athletic Park is located directly behind Southland Leisure Centre.
